Implant Placement Surgery and Restorations
Dental implants are often the best way to replace missing teeth. They are made of titanium (just like hip or knee implants). Once the implant or implants are placed, we can build crowns or bridges on them just like they were teeth. In fact, in some ways they are better than teeth. They help maintain the bone, are resistant to gum disease, and are immune to decay. They can also be used to stabilize dentures or partials.
Implants are placed relatively simply in the jawbone if there is sufficent volume of bone. If there is not, or if your case is complex for other reasons, you may be referred to an oral surgeon or periodontist for placement. If you are missing teeth or have one or more teeth with a poor prognosis, consider dental implants. You'll be glad you did.
